Global Health Explorers is being built as a public-interest educational platform for young people. Its governance therefore exists to protect the mission, support meaningful participation, safeguard learners, uphold integrity and ensure that the organization grows responsibly.

Governance at GHE is not simply administration. It is a continuing process of listening, learning, deciding, acting, reflecting and improving — with adolescents and young people at the heart of the learning ecosystem.

Global Health Explorers is designed around a simple principle: adolescents and youth are not passive recipients of learning. They are active participants in shaping the ideas, programs, relationships and future direction of GHE.

Mutual exchange is fundamental to GHE. Young people learn from the GHE ecosystem — and the ecosystem learns from young people.

How We Aim to Govern

The governance of GHE will be guided by principles that protect its mission, place young people at the centre, uphold trust and encourage responsible learning and improvement.

Mission & Purpose

Governance begins with a clear sense of purpose. Decisions, partnerships, programs and resources should remain aligned with the mission of empowering young people through global health education, evidence, equity and responsible action.

Youth Voice

Young people are not simply recipients of education. Their perspectives, questions, experiences and ideas should have meaningful opportunities to inform GHE learning, programs, innovation and future directions.

Equity & Inclusion

GHE seeks to create an environment in which diverse backgrounds, perspectives, abilities, cultures and experiences are respected and meaningful participation is encouraged.

Evidence & Integrity

GHE is committed to evidence-informed learning, intellectual honesty, responsible use of data, ethical conduct and respect for the distinction between evidence, interpretation and opinion.

Transparency & Accountability

Responsibilities should be clear, decisions should be explainable, and important institutional commitments and relationships should be communicated openly and responsibly.

The safety, dignity, privacy and wellbeing of children and young people are fundamental. GHE will seek to identify risks early and promote responsible practices across learning, technology, partnerships and participation.

GHE will listen to learners, educators, families, partners and communities, and use evidence and experience to understand what is working, what is changing and what needs greater attention.

Learning should lead to responsible adaptation. GHE will seek to improve its programs, policies, partnerships, educational approaches and governance practices as experience and evidence evolve.

Building Trust Through Collaboration

Meaningful global health education requires collaboration across schools, universities, public health institutions, community organizations, technology partners, educators, families and young people.

GHE therefore seeks partnerships based on shared values, clarity of roles, mutual respect, appropriate recognition and responsible stewardship of resources, information and relationships.

Partnerships should strengthen the educational mission while protecting the interests, dignity, safety and wellbeing of GHE learners and communities.

INDEPENDENCE & TRUST

Managing Conflicts of Interest

Individuals involved in governance, advising, education, research, partnerships or other activities may sometimes have interests that could influence — or appear to influence — their responsibilities.

GHE seeks to manage such situations openly and responsibly so that institutional decisions remain aligned with the organization's mission and public-interest purpose.

Our approach

  • Separate personal interests from institutional decision-making where appropriate.
  • Maintain transparency around significant institutional relationships.
  • Protect the credibility and independence of GHE's educational mission.

RESPONSIBLE DATA STEWARDSHIP

Protecting Information and Privacy

As GHE increasingly works with digital learning, data literacy, artificial intelligence and potentially sensitive information, responsible data stewardship will remain an essential part of its governance approach.

GHE will seek to promote privacy, security, informed participation, appropriate data use, transparency and ethical consideration of emerging technologies.

These principles are particularly important when activities involve children and young people.

Governance That Grows Responsibly

As Global Health Explorers grows, its governance arrangements may evolve to include appropriate boards, advisory structures, youth representation, educational and scientific expertise, safeguarding mechanisms, technical committees and other forms of independent guidance.

Any future structure should remain proportionate to the organization's activities and consistent with its public-interest mission, legal obligations and commitment to transparency and accountability.

The objective is not governance for its own sake, but governance that enables GHE to remain trustworthy, effective, inclusive and focused on its mission.
